5 Feb 1985, Ronaldo was born on in Santo António, a neighbourhood of Funchal, Madeira, the youngest child of Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, a cook, and José Dinis Aveiro, a municipal gardener. His second given name, "Ronaldo", was chosen after then-U.S. president Ronald Reagan, who was his father's favourite actor. He has one older brother, Hugo, and two older sisters, Elma and Liliana Cátia.
1988, Ronaldo first began kicking a football.
1991, he started primary school.
1993, at the age of eight, Ronaldo played for amateur team Andorinha, where his father was the kit man.
1995, Ronaldo signed with local club Nacional.
1997, he went on a three-day trial with Sporting CP, who subsequently signed him for an undisclosed sum.
2000, at 15 years old, Ronaldo was diagnosed with a racing heart, a condition that might have forced him to give up playing football. The Sporting staff were made aware of the condition and Ronaldo's mother gave her authorisation for him to go into hospital. While there, he had an operation in which a laser was used to cauterise the area of his heart that was causing the problem. The surgery took place in the morning and Ronaldo was discharged from hospital by the end of the afternoon; he resumed training only a few days later.
2001, at 16 years old, Ronaldo joined Sporting's other youth players who trained at the Academia Sporting, the club's football academy, in Alcochete. He became the only player ever to play for Sporting's under-16, under-17, under-18, B-team, and the first team, all within one season. He was first spotted by then-Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier, but Liverpool declined to take him on because they decided he was too young and needed some time to develop his skills.
7 Oct 2002, Ronaldo scored two goals in his league debut, which Sporting CP won 3–0 against Moreirense.
Aug 2003, at age 18 years old, Ronaldo came to the attention of Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson in the summer of 2003, when Sporting defeated United 3–1 in the inauguration of the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon. Ronaldo's performance impressed the Manchester United players, who urged Ferguson to sign him.  Cristiano was signed for a fee of £12.24.
20 Aug 2003, Ronaldo earned his first cap for Portugal in a 1–0 victory against Kazakhstan.
1 Nov 2003, Ronaldo scored his first goal for Manchester United with a free kick in a 3–0 win over Portsmouth.
12 Jun 2004, Ronaldo scored first international  goal when Portugal  2–1 loss to Greece in the opening match of Euro 2004.
1 Jul 2006, During a quarter-final match against England, Ronaldo's United teammate Wayne Rooney was sent off for stamping on Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho. The English media speculated that Ronaldo had influenced referee Horacio Elizondo's decision by aggressively complaining, after which he was seen in replays winking at the Portuguese bench following Rooney's dismissal.
6 Feb 2007, One day after his 22nd birthday, Ronaldo captained Portugal for the first time in a friendly against Brazil.
21 May 2008, Ronaldo won UEFA Champion League with Mancester United.
2 Dec 2008, The 2008 Ballon d'Or, given to the best football player in the world as judged by an international panel of sports journalists, was awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo.
12 Jan 2009, Ronaldo won the FIFA World Player of the Year award for the first time.
26 Jun 2009, Real Madrid confirmed that Ronaldo would join the club on 1 July 2009 from Manchester United for £80 million, after agreeing terms and signing a six-year contract.
